Renewable Energy at Winter Springs High School
The EMERGE Program partnered with Winter Springs High School to provide a Dual Enrollment course pathway for current high school students interested in sustainability and renewable energy. The four-course sequence includes a survey of alternative energy sources followed by an in-depth analysis of residential and small commercial photovoltaic and solar thermal systems.
Faculty from Seminole State College deliver the course content and oversee laboratory assignments on-site at Winter Springs High School. Students may enter the course pathway as early as their freshman year and use the college credits earned in the program toward the Sustainability Technical Certificate or a future degree. Seniors who have finished the solar energy instructional sequence at the high school may opt to design a capstone project in renewable energy for their final year.
