Unsung Heroes in STEM
A Model for Representation in Curricula
Each month the Biology Colloquium team shares an “Unsung Hero in STEM” with faculty to further representation and inclusion in STEM disciplines. While the focus is on STEM, the conversation can be interdisciplinary with respect to socioeconomic, political and/or historical perspectives.
Quick-and-easy Integration Tips for Instructors
- Present each new Unsung Hero flyer on your Canvas homepage every month
- If you're teaching remotely, use the name of the Unsung Hero as a Zoom password, then present the flyer to open a discussion
- Prompt students to research the individual
- Ask students to contribute their own ideas for an Unsung Hero specific to the discipline studied
