High Impact Practices Initiative (HIPs)

At Seminole State College, High Impact Practices (HIPs) are integral to fostering deeper learning, student engagement, and academic success. HIPs are research-based instructional practices that promote active learning and real-world application, empowering students to achieve higher levels of academic and personal growth. Whether you're new to HIPs or seeking to enhance existing methods, our goal is to provide the resources, support, and guidance needed to integrate these practices effectively into your courses.

Purpose Statement

The purpose of High Impact Practices at Seminole State College is to ensure that students experience rigorous, engaging, and meaningful learning opportunities throughout their academic journey. By participating in HIPs, students gain valuable skills in critical thinking, collaboration, and professional readiness. We are committed to offering faculty the tools and support they need to implement HIPs, with the shared goal of advancing student success and retention.

Explore our resources, upcoming events, and faculty support options, and learn how you can contribute to creating high-impact learning experiences that have a lasting effect on students.

Hailee Handel, Coordinator, High Impact Practices, hosts a Faculty Support Hour every Thursday to assist faculty in the development and implementation of HIPs in their courses and to answer any questions along the way. This takes place weekly from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. in person in SLM L-214 or via zoom.

Student Impact

HIPs are also associated with student retention and engagement.
