Seminole State College of Florida dedicated its new Student Center to all past, present and future Seminole State students in a ceremony Friday, Jan. 19, at the College's Sanford/Lake Mary Campus.

Elected officials, community leaders and members of the Seminole State family gathered outside the entrance of the new Student Center as Seminole State President Dr. E Ann McGee and SGA President Caleb Hylton cut a blue ribbon in honor of the building, which opened Tuesday, Jan. 2.

“Seminole State College continues to be an institution where students feel their inputs are valued and their voices are heard,” said Hylton. “The new Student Center is an example of those values in a tangible form.”

Hylton represented the student body in providing initial input in the design of the building.

The $25 million Student Center supports Seminole State's vision of being a student-centered college by serving as a one-stop facility for student services and student life. Previously housed in six different buildings on the campus, the two-story, 77,000-square-foot structure now houses all student services under one roof, serving students from admission through graduation.

McGee opened the Student Center dedication thanking all who played a role in bringing the center to fruition. “I know it takes all of us working together to make this happen,” she said.

Wendy Brandon, CEO of Central Florida Regional Hospital and Chair of the Seminole State Board of Trustees recognized Dr. McGee for providing the vision and passion that allowed the College to reach this milestone.

“This building is here because of you and because of all that you have done over the years at this College,” Brandon said. “It’s one of the many examples of your impact on our institution and one the many ways you’re leaving such a fine legacy…The Student Center will serve as a place of support where students can develop and strengthen their sense of community as they strive for academic excellence.”

Following the ribbon cutting, to the tune of recording artist Flo Rida’s, “My House,” guests were welcomed to the student’s new home on campus, as they were invited to attend a reception and partake in tours of the new center. The celebration continued with activities for students, faculty and staff.
