Amy Lockhart, Trustee
Amy Lockhart is a native of Lighthouse Point, Florida, but has called Central Florida home since 1996.
With a broad base of experiences, Amy has a background in marketing and sales and operated her own consulting business prior to working for the citizens of Seminole County as a member of the Board of County Commissioners’ staff. Her work with local government and solid working relationships with many different community groups, equip her with a unique perspective in her various roles and responsibilities.
First elected to the School Board in 2012, and subsequently re-elected in 2016, Amy served as vice-chairman for two consecutive years, followed by an additional two years as chairman. She successfully fought to reduce standardized testing in schools and restore more local control. Dubbed a “Recess Hero” by advocates around the state, Amy led the cause of “free play” recess periods for all elementary school students in Seminole County.
Governor Rick Scott appointed Amy to serve on the Seminole State College District Board of Trustees in 2014 and again in 2018. She was elected vice-chair of the board of trustees for a one-year term in 2019. Amy is passionate about ensuring students have a balanced educational experience that includes real-world internships, technical education, and workforce programs that will ensure students graduate ready to enter college or the workforce.
Elected to the Seminole County Board of County Commissioners in 2018, Amy provides a valuable relational link for Seminole County’s top-rated public entities. She promotes improved efficiencies and services for each organization by sharing relevant best practices.
In addition to her regular responsibilities as a County Commissioner, Amy also serves as liaison to the following boards and committees: Juvenile Justice Advisory Board, Regional Commission on Homelessness, Tourist Development Council, Public Schools Facilities Planning Commission, and the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council.
Amy has served in various volunteer leadership roles supporting the great work of organizations such as: Seminole County Young Life, Sallie Harrison Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens, the Foundations for both Seminole State College and Seminole County Public Schools, the J. Douglas Williams YMCA, the GFWC Lake Mary Woman’s Club, SafeHouse of Seminole for which she received the 2008 “Leadership Award”, and the Scottish American Society of Central Florida for which she received the 2013 "Brave Lass" Award.
Amy and her husband, Tim, have been married for 25 years, and have two children. Karis is a graduate of Seminole High School and the University of Central Florida, and Jake is a senior at Lake Mary High School. Soon-to-be-empty-nesters, the Lockharts recently adopted their newest fur-baby, a goldendoodle named Bear. The family attends St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lake Mary. In her “spare time”, Amy enjoys tending her kitchen garden, cooking, and researching genealogy.
