Florida Bright Futures Scholarships

Florida Bright Futures Scholarships are awarded by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) for the Fall and Spring terms based on academic merit (Summer funds may also be available, as determined by FLDOE.). Funds cover up to 45 credit hours per academic year.

Along with other general requirements, students must complete the Florida Financial Aid Application no later than Aug. 31 after high school graduation and be enrolled in a minimum of six non-remedial credit hours per term to be eligible.

The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program has three award levels with different criteria for initial eligibility:

Students who have demonstrated academic merit through a recognition program may be eligible for Bright Futures without having to meet one or more of the requirements.

Note.
  • Florida Academic Scholars(including Academic Top Scholars): Florida high school graduates must:
    • Complete 16 credits of required high school coursework
    • Achieve a minimum weighted high school GPA of 3.5
    • Achieve minimum required scores on college entrance exams (29 ACT/1290 SAT)
    • Complete 100 hours of community service
  • Florida Medallion Scholars: Florida high school graduates must:
    • Complete 16 credits of required high school coursework
    • Achieve a minimum weighted high school GPA of 3.0
    • Achieve minimum required scores on college entrance exams (26 ACT/1170 SAT)
    • Complete 75 hours of community service
  • Gold Seal Vocational Scholars: Florida high school graduates must:
    • Achieve a minimum weighted high school GPA of 3.0 in non-elective high school courses and a minimum weighted high school GPA of 3.5 in career education courses
    • Take at least three full credits in a single Career and Technical Education program
    • Achieve required minimum scores on college entrance exams (ACT, SAT or PERT)
    • Complete 30 hours of community service

Eligibility requirements vary for non-traditional students, including home education, GED and out-of-state students.
