A tireless supporter of education, Van Gundy’s career spanned multiple roles in higher education, including assistant director of admissions at Castleton State College and Middlesex College in Massachusetts. She earned her master’s degree in counseling in 1988, demonstrating her deep commitment to helping students navigate their academic and personal challenges. Her work was particularly focused on supporting non-traditional students, including mothers on welfare striving to improve their lives through education.

Beyond her professional achievements, Van Gundy was also known for her creativity and passion for interior design. Her love for decorating and renovating homes was not just a personal interest, but a reflection of her desire to create welcoming and beautiful spaces for others. This passion for design extended into her community work, including her involvement with Leadership Seminole’s Class 22 project at IMPOWER/The Grove, where she contributed to the interior design of their rehabilitation center.

Van Gundy served on the Foundation for Seminole State College's Board of Directors, where she was an active and passionate supporter of the College’s mission. Her children, Michael and Shannon, have also connected with the College to complete their GED, Associate in Arts degree or an internship so they can find their own path.
