Flamenco del Sol La Casa de Bernarda Alba, A Carlos Rodriquez Production: Join the Center for Fine and Performing Arts for Flamenco del Sol's dance version of Federico Garcia Lorca’s most acclaimed works, La Casa de Bernarda Alba (The House of Bernarda Alba), presented by Orlando Flamenco and directed by international flamenco luminary, Carlos Rodriguez. Written in 1936, two months before Lorca’s death, this play explores themes of feminine repression, passion, conformity and sexuality during the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War.

Regarded as literary canon throughout Latin America and Spain, La Casa de Bernarda Alba is one of Western literature’s most provocative and treasured works.

La Casa de Bernarda Alba cast includes internationally renowned flamenco artists including Malaga-born cantora (singer) Rocio Bazan, Barcelona-based dancer Mariana Martinez as well as several performers from Flamenco del Sol’s professional company. This one-act play not only explores the expected societal roles of women in early 20th century Europe, but brings to light the devastating physical, mental and emotional effects repression plays in the lives of women. This work tells Lorca’s gripping story through the eyes of flamenco, apropos in that this now internationally lauded art form began as artistic expression of an oppressed population. Performance is one night only on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m.

Witches of Shakespeare

Le Petit Théâtre will also feature Witches of Shakespeare. Meet Shakespeare’s spookiest characters including witches, villains and spirits.
