Name: Zac McCamie
Title and company: Firefighter/paramedic Orlando Fire Department
Years attended Seminole State College: 2001-2003
Did you go on to a four-year college or university following your time spent at Seminole State?
I received my bachelor's degree in political science and played at the University of South Carolina.
What position did you play on the Seminole State baseball team?
I pitched for Seminole State from 2001-2003.
Any favorite memory of your time, team or Coach Mike Nicholson?
The 2002 - 2003 season, we won the FCSAA State/NJCAA Region 8 championships and went to Grand Junction, Colorado. Favorite memory: anytime Coach Nick got fired up, whether it be at us or at an umpire. He didn't get mad often, but when he did, it was intense and I loved it! Imagine the normally quiet, reserved guy, out of nowhere, turning into the Incredible Hulk!
How did your experience as a student-athlete help with your life or current situation?
Baseball helped mold what I wanted for my life and career. I sought out a career where I could be an important, necessary and a vital part of a team. I really wanted a career with the brotherhood and camaraderie that I enjoyed so much in baseball.
Can you share an uplifting story about your work that you have experienced over the last few weeks?
Nothing specific comes to mind. However, the outpouring of generosity from companies looking to help healthcare and first responders has been amazing. Restaurants offering free food and even bringing it to the fire stations. Also, places like Publix allowing us to go to the front of long lines and having special operation hours only for us has made a world of difference.
Anything else you want to add?
I have never met a group of friends that stay in touch like that 2002 - 2003 team. I still visit with teammates in New York; we still hangout and speak often. We take trips together and are truly a tight-knit family.
