See stars at Seminole State's summer planetarium shows

Seminole State College of Florida’s Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust Planetarium is presenting summer shows and events to educate and entertain. Through family-friendly and interactive events, the planetarium hopes to encourage interest in learning more about Earth, our solar system and beyond.

Jupiter Opposition Viewing Night

Monday, June 10

8:30 - 11:30 p.m.

Sanford/Lake Mary Campus

E. Ann McGee Student Center south pavilion

Opposition marks the best time of year to see Jupiter in the night sky as Earth moves between the planet and the sun, meaning Jupiter will be close and visible all night.

Telescopes will be available for visitors to get a glimpse and even snap a photo on their phones using telescope adapters. Visitors can also bring their own telescopes to view Jupiter. Planetarium employees will be on hand to help set up telescopes as needed. 

Admission to this event is free. 

WUCF PBS Summer of Space Documentary Screening

Friday, June 14 and Wednesday, June 26

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing with WUCF, Central Florida's PBS station. The planetarium will host previews of two exciting documentaries examining pivotal events in the race to the moon.

There will be a brief Q&A with an astronomer immediately following the showings. If weather permits, there will be telescopes available outside to view the night sky. 

Admission to this event is free. 

Summer Star Party and Laser Fest

All ages are welcome for a night under the stars to observe the moon and planets Jupiter and Saturn. 

The star party is free to attend and takes place at the E. Ann McGee Student Center south pavilion.

During the star party, laser shows will also be presented in the planetarium. Tickets can be purchased starting at 7 p.m. in front of the planetarium. Please note that seating is limited and is available on a first come, first served basis. Visitors can choose between four different shows:

• 8 p.m. - Laser Beatles
• 9 p.m. - Laser Vinyl (AC/DC, Van Halen, Queen, KISS, Aerosmith, Journey, Boston and more)
• 10 p.m. - Laser Metallica
• 11 p.m. - Laser Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon

Tickets for the laser shows are $10 for adults and $8 for non-Seminole State students and seniors (55+). Seminole State faculty, staff and students can buy tickets for $5 with a valid College ID.

Present a valid ticket stub from a previous laser showing and receive $2 off any admission level.

Please note, the planetarium is able to accept only cash or checks.

Watch the critically acclaimed CNN documentary on the planetarium dome as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Never-before-seen footage and audio recordings take viewers straight into the heart of NASA's most celebrated mission as astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin embark on a historic trip to the moon.
