Program Benefits
The Grindle Honors Institute at Seminole State offers numerous program benefits to enrich students' educational experiences. These program benefits include:
Honors courses are small and limited to 20 students, which fosters meaningful academic relationships between students and professors. Class time is spent cultivating critical thinking through active participation.
The Honors Program awards scholarships to honors students to assist in financing their education.
The Honors Program provides students with an Honors Center at both the Sanford/Lake Mary and Lee Campus at Oviedo. The centers provide students with study space, computers, and free printing.
The Honors Program sponsors both international and domestic travel opportunities for students. Students are also provided with opportunities to attend academic conferences to present research.
The Honors Program offers a number of seminars and courses on special topics offered only to Honors students.
Seminole State College grants special recognition to Honors Institute graduates at Commencement. Your recognition will appear on your diploma and transcript, and you will receive a special honors medallion to wear during the Commencement ceremony.
We have guaranteed transfer opportunities for the Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida and the Hicks Honors College at the University of North Florida. We also assist students to transferring to a number of institutions within and outside of the state of Florida.
Participation in honors is free. Honors courses generally substitute other courses; therefore, students do not typically incur additional credits or fees.
This means that students in the Honors Program will be among the first to select courses offered, regardless of major.
Courses offered within the Honors Program are used to enhance a student’s education, as we offer courses that coincide with several educational pathways.
