Give to the Creegan/Hylton Memorial Law Enforcement Endowed Scholarship
A U.S. Navy veteran, Master Chief John Creegan retired after 18 years of service, the last three years of which were served at the Navy Recruit Command in Orlando shortly before the closure of the Navy Training Center.
Knowing he could continue to make a difference, Creegan served as a police officer for the City of Casselberry. A few years later, Creegan became a deputy sheriff with the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
On May 29, 1996 Deputy Creegan was tragically killed in the line of duty while attempting to stop a stolen vehicle. A husband and father of three sons, Deputy Creegan was known as a rising star in the department who was killed while trying to protect his community.
In July of the same year, Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Hylton, a seven year agency veteran, was tragically killed on his way to work after being struck head-on by a drunk driver. Deputy Hylton is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Honoring the lives and legacy of these law enforcement professionals, this scholarship provides financial assistance to students accepted into the Law Enforcement Academy at Seminole State College. Students must meet the exemplary standards of conduct required by the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.
