The Honorable Brenda Carey

For 16 years, Brenda Carey has been a driving force in keeping Seminole County on a steady path toward the future.  On issues including water management, homelessness, transportation, and the arts, Carey has left a legacy in Seminole County for future leaders to follow.

Carey was a pioneer for women in the construction industry and real estate industry and has dedicated herself to helping other women follow her path. The result has been a long legacy of other women who’ve entered both the industry and politics in Seminole County, who look to her as a mentor and inspiration.

Her record of public service includes serving as chair of the Seminole County Commission, and in key roles with the Central Florida Expressway Authority, Orlando Sanford International Airport, and Wekiva River Basin Commission.

“An advocate for economic development and managed growth, Carey is a formidable power in local and regional circles and is cementing her legacy as one of Seminole County’s great leaders," said Tre' Evers, Consensus Communications.

In 2019, Carey was ranked as the 10th most powerful elected official in Florida Politics Central Florida's 25 most powerful politicians survey.  She retired from the Seminole County Commission in November 2020 after 16 years of public service and currently serves as president of the Carey Company.

The Brenda Carey Endowed Scholarship provides tuition and book assistance to Seminole High School graduates who maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 with preference given to single parents.
