First Generation Program Success Story: Stephanie Vivas
Stephanie Vivas chose Seminole State College because it offered convenient locations to her home and she received a scholarship through the First Generation Program.
Vivas enjoyed the campus involvement and cultural enrichment opportunities found at Seminole State, especially those that she experienced as part of the First Generation Program. This included visits to museums, free workshops and recognition events. Appreciating all of the helpful advisement that she received, she then became a peer mentor to help others like herself.
“I would have been so lost without this amazing program that has not only helped me financially, but also helped me prepare to be successful and ready for my future,” says Vivas.
Vivas earned her Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree in Elementary Education in Summer, 2014. She then transferred to the University of Central Florida (UCF) to complete her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
Her aspirations are to become a second grade teacher and get her Master's degree to become a high school guidance counselor.
