Reasonable Accommodation

Seminole State College welcomes members of the public to student recruitment events, employment interviews, cultural events such as plays and speakers, and many other events during the year. While the ongoing requests of students are coordinated through Disability Support Services, and employees’ requests are coordinated through Human Resources, the needs of visitors may be limited to a small number of visits.

Accessible Parking

The four campuses and two additional locations of Seminole State College offer accessible parking at no charge to visitors. Each location offers van-accessible and regular accessible spaces in one or more parking lots. Visit the map of each campus or location and look for the wheelchair symbol to locate accessible parking on the closest accessible path of travel to your destination.
See http://www.seminolestate.edu/about/directions.

Alternate Format Materials

The College can print event programs in larger font, email a program to visually-impaired individuals who use a screen reader, or provide other effective accommodations to a visitor. This may include providing a script for some events, for an individual with a hearing impairment. Since production of materials in accessible format requires lead time, the College requests advance notice (five days or more) in order to provide quality service in welcoming guests with visual or hearing impairments.

Assistive Listening Devices

Contact the venue for the event, or its organizer, to see if the device is located there for immediate checkout. Since devices may be shared by various offices, the College requests advance notice (five days or more) in order to provide quality service in welcoming guests with hearing impairments.

Seating

Large meeting spaces and auditoria with fixed seating provide space for wheelchair users in various locations and lines of sight. To make arrangements for seating with up to three individuals in your party, please contact the organizer of the event. The College requests advance notice (five days or more) in order to provide quality service in welcoming guests using wheelchairs who wish to be seated in a party of four or fewer.

Sign Language Interpreter

The College will supply a sign language interpreter or other effective accommodation to a visitor, with advance request. At large events, the College may provide priority seating so the individual can see the interpreter. Since interpreters are pre-scheduled for day and night classes all semester, availability may be limited for events. The College requests advance notice (five days or more) in order to provide quality service in welcoming guests with hearing impairments.

These are examples of accommodations, not an exhaustive list. Seminole State College encourages visitors to request services from the department organizing the function or event that brings them to campus. Visitors with a non-visible disability may be asked to provide documentation so the College can determine what is reasonable and effective. Each visitor is encouraged to contact the College as early as possible in order for the College to provide quality service.
