H.O.P.E. Scholars

In the Fall of 2016 the H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Pursue Education) Scholars program was created to improve the retention and degree completion rates of underrepresented students attending Seminole State College. The program provides personal, academic, social, professional, and leadership development to these students, to positively impact academic success, increase retention, and develop  successful graduate leaders of tomorrow.

The H.O.P.E. Scholars Program is open to all Seminole State students with a focus on serving underrepresented students at Seminole State. To participate you can email Alex Lambis at lambisa@seminolestate.edu .  Complete the our Interest form and we will send you additional information.

Leadership Cohort

Every fall and spring semester, students are invited to apply to the H.O.P.E. Leadership Cohort. Cohort members participate in weekly team meetings where we discuss upcoming events, and dialogue on societal/cultural issues. The cohort creates an opportunity to cultivate community and develop a network of trust and support amongst the students. 

Cohort Requirements

  •   Maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 or higher
  • Have a minimum of 6 recorded hours of community service
  • Attend at least one (out of two) H.O.P.E Cohort community service events
  • Attend three student life events (one MUST be a H.O.P.E event).
  • Attend a full leadership retreat 
  • Meet with an academic advisor at least once during a semester
  • Have a one-on-one conversation with the Coordinator (Alex) once a semester
  • Meet with H.O.P.E. peer mentors once a month for peer review
  • Attend cohort meetings. If you miss more than two, you will be dismissed from the cohort.

H.O.P.E. Events and Workshops

H.O.P.E. hosts several events and workshops for the entire Seminole State community. Our events focus on developing students and informing them on academic, social justice, and professional topics. Such events that we have hosted in the past include:

  • Color and Abstract Art Workshop
  • International Food Festival
  • Carnaval de Barranquilla
  • Moving Beyond College: Preparing for What’s Next
  • Confronting Anxiety
  • Alumni Student Panel
  • The Flipside: History’s Other Stories
