Academic Success Center
The Academic Success Center (ASC) provides Seminole State students with free tutoring for a range of subject areas, including math, writing, the sciences, accounting, and more. The ASC staff can also help students develop their time management, notetaking, and study skills. Additionally, on campus ASC locations offer computer access and study spaces.
Tutoring is available on a drop-in basis, so no appointment is necessary. ASC Services are available on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus, the Altamonte Springs campus, the Lee Campus at Oviedo, and online.
The ASC hosts events and workshops throughout the year. Check out the ASC's Raider Connect page for event details.
Navigate360 Early Alerts Program
Additionally, ASC staff help support the college's Early Alert initiative. Please visit the Navigate360 Early Alert webpage for more information about how the Early Alert process supports student success.
How to Get the Most from Each Tutoring Session
- Visit the ASC early and often throughout the term.
- Establish a specific goal during each tutoring visit.
- Bring textbooks, notes, past exams or papers, syllabi, and assignment directions or prompts.
- Participate actively in every tutoring session. Learning is an active process.
- Seek time to work independently after working with a tutor. This allows tutors so see how comfortable you are with the content.
- Make note of specific questions to discuss with a tutor.
- Attend and participate in class. Tutors discuss specific concepts but do not teach like an instructor. Time with a tutor does not replace class instruction.
Mission
The Academic Success Center provides academic support to all currently enrolled Seminole State College students. The ASC supplements classroom learning by providing tutoring in a variety of subject areas and through additional academic programming, such as workshops and review sessions.
Vision
The Academic Success Center staff is dedicated to providing support that empowers students to grow as learners and expand their skills. A tutor’s ultimate goal is for students to be able to apply the skills they’ve learned independently. ASC staff wants to help students succeed not only on one assignment, but throughout their academic pursuits.
